Princess Soma was the ruler of Funan in the 1st century AD. She was the wife of Kaundinya who came from Kalinga India. Initially, Kaundinya was about to be robbed in the middle of the sea by a group of Soma daughters of the local Naga tribe chief. but managed to win the battle, impressed by Kaundinya's courage, Soma's daughter fell in love and they married. Their second marriage gave birth to the Soma dynasty which ruled for generations in the region and the rule of royal leadership was also obtained through the lineage of women in the kingdom. , up to the time the Khmer and Champ still claimed lineage from Soma. Other names are Neang Neak (Khmer), Liuye (Chinese), Lieudiep (Vietnamese).
